Make Way for Ducklings!

When my brothers and I were little, my dad used to read us a book called "Make Way for Ducklings" that his parents had read to him when he was little. It is such an adorable book that every child should have and I have my own copy now on my shelf.
Well, today, I got to experience the real thing for myself! One of my neighbors knocked on my door and told me to hurry outside and look and lo and behold: mom and dad duck with their 14 little ducklings walking down our street! They were a very unusual species that I can't find anywhere on the internet...But I was just ecstatic! I ran inside, grabbed my camera and followed them down the street (at the same time committing a CPS violation leaving June asleep in her swing).

They were going away from the park and I was really worried that they were lost. There is no water on our street, but at the end of our street is the Alamo Heights Country Club. So perhaps, there is some water on the golf course. But to get there, they would have to first cross a really busy street. I had to go "make way" for them!!! So, I followed discreetly behind so as not alarm them, and they just walked along in their little line. They would stop every few houses and the dad would go a little ahead to scout things out (JUST like in the book!) and all the babies would gather behind the mom. Then they would start again. ADORABLE!
Well, of course, they came to the busy street. (I had picked up a few people on the way down the block) and we all stood in the street to let them pass. The dad definitely looked both ways though and off they went.

There was a huge fence in between them and the country club, but that did not stop them. The dad scouted out a hole, got through and then the mom and dad talked to each other for a minute and she found another hole for all the babies to follow. Just priceless!

I, of course, went home (June was still asleep), called the country club and warned them of their important guests. They said they would notify maintenance right away and get them safely to water! How lovely! I sure wish I could have gotten pictures of us directing traffic, but you will have to imagine. (And we are getting a camera lens that zooms alot better hopefully very soon.) There was this old man helping the ducks with me and he said "Now, there is a picture of a good family." And I thought how true that was. You know, ducks mate for life. And talk about parental obedience. There was no-one out of line in that family... I was so glad to get to experience that little example of God's ideal for a family. :)

Bedspreads

Lately, I have been loving pictures of bedrooms. Once I get Meuf Te' re-trained (She has decided she is not loved anymore and has un-potty trained herself) and get her sleeping in her bed by herself, we would like a white bedspread, or just something different. So, I have been considering something similar to these options below:

Don't you just love the serenity of those beds? Hopefully a change sometime in the near future for the great SuDan! But for now, we will stick with our lovely quilt. And in case you thought that I could actually post something without June in it, I will leave you with this latest love:

Random

With all the visitors we have had lately, I forgot to mention one of my Dad's best friends- Ty. He came to visit a few weeks ago and June immediately took to him. I am sure most of you blog readers out there do not know who Ty is, but you are sorely missing out on a classic character! I cannot even describe how hilariously fun and entertaining Ty is. He was only here for an afternoon, but we heard many good stories and relished in his great West Texas voice!

After he left, June had her daily bath. Naked time is her favorite time of the day- she lays on the bathroom floor on her towel while the bath fills up and just kicks around. She looks hilarious! So, i had to include that in here:

And lest everyone forget who actually writes this blog, I am including a picture of yours truly. If you are wondering where all my hair went; I needed a quick trim and my hair place charged $55, so I asked Dan to just trim off the bottom and even out the dead ends. Well, six inches later, here is my hair... But oh well, it will grow back!

More kids...

We have been contemplating, these last two months: the accumulation of more children to run around. So, we thought what better way to get a feel for it than to babysit. Our friends, Rachel and Corey graciously lent us two of their adorable ( and as you can see, slightly messy) children- age 2 and 3:
and then our neighbor Lizzy, down the street contributed one of hers (age 3) as well. A game of tag ensued:
fast forward to six hours later and everyone wants to be held by Dan!

And here is sweet June, who slightly minded the attention being taken off of her, but had a very good attitude while all of her stuff was being thrown all over the house and the kids were hiding in her room during hide and seek.

Interesting afternoon, but we feel like we could handle a few more.... :)

Trinity vs. Haiti

Last night, we got to participate in a rare treat- a half international soccer game! Now, I am not one for soccer. I don't even know how the time works. But, we decided to go last night because Trinity College, right down the street was playing the country of Haiti. Haiti is practicing in San Antonio for the next two weeks because their facilities were hit by the earthquake and this was their first game since it hit. They are getting ready for their next game against Argentina, who is #3 in the world! So, we thought we had to get in on this little piece of culture and went with our good friends: Dave and Katie. We walked from their house to Trinity's small stadium/field with our babies and had the greatest time! (sorry about the picture quality- we forgot our camera and had to use the iphone...)

June was supposed to be asleep all bundled up but she wanted to watch soccer too or at least how we reacted to it, so she stayed awake until I put a blanket over her stroller.

At the end of the game, I wanted to get a picture with one of the Haitians, but there were super long lines to talk to them, so I just got my own picture: (that guy is one of the players...)

Fun night!

A post that is NOT about June :)

I was thinking.... why don't I post anything else besides June pictures? So, I thought I would show you our kickball team transformation. Last year at this time, Clif was living with us and our lives were filled with the animal children and our city sports teams. Here is our kickball team from last year....
And here....is our team this year!
Quite a change! Although we have definitely moved into a new stage of our life, everyone else who lives around us has too! Our team is made up of all our neighbors from Mahncke Park and is so fun :)

Last week, we won 15-0 and tonight, we won 9-1, although half the time, when its time to take the field, most of the moms are feeding their babies or getting them to stop crying... Every game, we have 6 babies laid out on a blanket just waiting for their mom to get back from the outfield. Lots of babies and lots of fun!

Visitors!

Well, we have had a lot of traffic through here since little June was born. We have been trying to get people down here forever and apparently, all we needed was to have a baby for people to come visit us!

And I guess you might be thinking that our life is consumed with June at the moment; well it is.... But we do other things occasionally, like kickball, Dan playing softball and soccer, and me in ballet (I have my first recital May 16th!! - anyone is welcome to attend!) But.... we only take pictures of June, so here they are with all her visitors :)

Here is adorable little June with her daddy:

Here are the first visitors (my parents)- last weekend for Easter!

And then Mimi and Papa (my dad's parents):

And then Noni and PapPap (Dan's parents)! (PapPap not pictured)

And then here is part of our little family (minus the animal species) for church Easter:

Lots going on here down in San Anton'... And we are enjoying it all (except getting up at night) Happy late Easter and mid-April!
